Robinson Crusoe

While on a trip to acquire a boatload of slaves, Robinson Crusoe’s (Dan O’Herlihy) ship is wrecked upon the shore of a remote island. There, he must learn to survive with the help of his slave, Friday. Director Luis Bunuel injects his adaptation of Daniel Dafoe’s classic adventure novel with compelling elements of morality and religion. O’Herlihy was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance. This was both Bunuel’s first color film and his only English language production.

Durante una travesía en busca de esclavos, el barco de Robinson Crusoe (Dan O’Herlihy) naufraga contra las costas de una isla remota. Ahí, deberá aprender a sobrevivir con la ayuda de su esclavo, Viernes. El director Luis Buñuel inyecta su adaptación de la aventura clásica de Daniel Defoe con convincentes elementos de moralidad y religión. O’Herlihy fue nominado a un Oscar por su actuación. Fué la primera película de Buñuel en color y su única producción en inglés.

Morena Clara

We are in the most remote times. In the palace of Faraón Ramsés, they are celebrating with a flamenco party, but with the appearence of the Civil War, Ramsés and his servants leave fleeing and take refuge under a bridge. With the hunger, the haste and the appearance of the mythological ox Apis, they forget of their holy existence and solely leave him as a pile of bones.

Passing now in Rome, years later, the Gipsies follow progress and it is now the centurions drive a chariot of which can remain without horses in less than a sneeze. Now we are in a medieval castle, before their walls have organised a good flamenco and how no like to Mrs Berenguela, it throws a bucket of water on the cales.

Estamos en los más remotos tiempos. En el palacio del Faraón Ramsés celebran una fiesta flamenca, pero al aparecer al Guardia Civil, Ramsés y sus muchachos salen huyendo y se refugian bajo un puente. El hambre los acucia y al aparecer el mitológico buey Apis, se olvidan de su sagrada existencia y sólo dejan de él un montón de huesos.

Pasamos ahora a Roma, años después,  Los gitanos siguen progresando, y es ahora el centurión que conduce una cuadriga el que se queda sin caballos en menos de un estornudo. Ahora estamos en un castillo medieval, ante sus muros se organiza una juerga flamenca, y como no place a doña Berenguela, ésta arroja unos cubos de agua a los calés.

Un día perdido

The sucess of “The devil plays flute”, shot in 1953 by José Mª Forqué after a script he wrote together with Noel Clarasó, gathered them back the year after in this new project about different and somehow related stories.

In UN DIA PERDIDO fantasy gives way to costumbrismo and introduces us to 3 nuns who must stay overnight in Madrid in their way home. When they pick up their luggage they discover a basket with a newborn baby, and although their first though is to report it to the authorities they go and try to find his parents with the help of the best taxi driver they could ever imagine: the great Pepe Isbert.

El éxito de “El diablo toca la flauta”, realizada en 1953 por José Mª Forqué con guión escrito junto a Noel Clarasó, volvió a unir a los dos, al año siguiente, en un nuevo proyecto donde también coincidían varias historias hilvanadas con una leve trama argumental.

En UN DÍA PERDIDO la fantasía da paso al costumbrismo y presenta a tres monjas, de paso en Madrid, que deben pernoctar en el convento de su orden. Al recoger sis maletas descubren un cesto con un niño recién nacido y, aunque piensan en entregarlo a la Beneficiencia, optan por tratar de localizar a sus padres con la complicidad del mejor taxista que podían imaginar: el gran Pepe Isbert.

Cómicos

A modest company of actors is travelling across the country, in a poor way but without losing their hope of success. The young Ana Ruiz houses a special illusion of success, and not even the love of Miguel can make her abandon her intentions. In Madrid, she warns that she would succeed if she adopted the amorous propositions of the hateful Márquez.

Una modesta compañía de cómicos recorre el país, de precaria manera pero sin perder la esperanza de triunfar. La joven Ana Ruiz alberga una ilusión especial en el éxito, y ni siquiera el amor de Miguel consigue que desista en el propósito. Ya en Madrid, advierte que podría triunfar si aceptase las proposiciones amorosas del odioso Márquez.
