Andres returns to his home town after many years of absence. His father was an upper crust army officer, who left his wife to live with Andrés’ mother, a second-rate showgirl. The reason for his returning is to get hold of the property his father bequeathed him: a tumbledown old house which is about to be declared national monument. But his plans for leaving as soon as possible will be ruined by the intromission of Ramón, his half-brother, in the purchase of the ramshackle house. The communication between Andres and his half- family and the old lawyer Don Dimas and the daugther of this, Blanquita, will start to get more and more complicated.
Andrés vuelve a su ciudad natal después de una larga ausencia. Su padre era un militar de la alta sociedad, que abandonó a su esposa para unirse a la madre de Andrés, una cupletista de segunda fila. El motivo de su regreso es hacerse cargo de una antigua herencia que le dejó su padre: un caserón semirruinoso que está a punto de ser declarado monumento histórico. Pero sus deseos de liquidar pronto el asunto se ven rotos por la intromisión de su hermanastro Ramón en la compra de la casa. Las relaciones de Andrés con su familia, y con el viejo abogado Don Dimas y su hija Blanquita, se complican.
