Luisa Llorent, a well-known assessor of old mansions, disappears without a trace after being commissioned to go and value a legendary building; the mysterious Valdemar mansion. Maximilian, the president of the company she works for, contracts the services of the detective, Nicolás Tramel to find her. This is not the first disappearance. A short time after another assessor called Orquicia, one of Luisa’s colleagues and a friend of detective Tramel, also vanishes when she is sent to value the contents of the Valdemar mansion. However, at the Inmoberance company nobody seems very bothered about the fate of this employee. The detective moves to the place where the events took place and, along with the arrogant Doctor Cerviá, the president of the Valdemar foundation, he sets out on a journey into the past. She fills him in on the background of the case and tells him about the tragedy of Lázaro and Leonor Valdemar, the married couple who lived in the legendary house around 1880. The tragedy of this couple, who seemed to have led a normal life, was the result of some horrific events related to the celebration of what is called the Dunwich Rite, a gateway to knowledge and the fulfillment of all human hopes. Detective Kramer will have to get to the bottom of the disturbing past to try and solve the no less horrifying present.
