The teacher in the village of Araceli, Pilar Guerra (María Antonieta Monterreal), is in a relationship with Luciano (Juan de Orduña), the son of the Mayor, who does not accept the love between them. 

In order to separate them he decides to send Luciano on a journey and manages to get Pilar transferred to a different job. Desperate, the young teacher loses her job and is transferred to Madrid where she survives posing for a sculptor, Luciano´s old teacher. Unaware of what has happened to Pilar, Luciano also goes to the capital.

La maestra del pueblo de Araceli, Pilar Guerra (María Antonieta Monterreal), mantiene relaciones amorosas con Luciano (Juan de Orduña), el hijo del alcalde, quien no acepta los amores de los jóvenes.

Para separarlos decide enviar a Luciano de viaje y consigue que a Pilar la trasladen de destino. Desesperada, la joven maestra pierde el empleo y se traslada a Madrid, donde sobrevive posando para un escultor, antiguo maestro de Luciano. Ignorante de cuanto le ha sucedido a Pilar, Luciano también se instala en la capital.

El abuelo

Don Rodrigo de Arista y Potestad, Count Albrit (Modesto Rivas), an old aristocrat who has been in Peru for many years trying to recover some gold mines that belonged to his ancestors, returns to Spain a ruined man.

On arriving, he finds out that his son Rafael had hidden his delicate state of health, and his wife’s, Lucrecia de Richmond (Ana María Ruiz de Leyva), discretions, from him. He soon goes to see his son, but finds he has just died. On the desk, there is an unfinished letter in which Rafael appeals against his legitimate daughter being left in his wife´s custody, because the other daughter is the product of his wife´s affair with a painter. 

Don Rodrigo de Arista y Potestad, conde de Albrit (Modesto Rivas), un anciano aristócrata que ha permanecido varios años en Perú tratando de recuperar unas minas de oro pertenecientes a sus antepasados, regresa a España arruinado.

Al llegar se entera de que su hijo Rafael le había ocultado su delicado estado de salud y las infidelidades de su esposa, Lucrecia de Richmond, (Ana María Ruiz de Leyva). Rápidamente acude a ver a su hijo, pero éste acaba de fallecer. Sobre el escritorio hay una carta sin finalizar en la que Rafael reclama a su esposa la custodia de su hija legítima, ya que la otra es fruto de las relaciones de ella con un pintor.
