Nevando voy

Winter is coming over. At a factory’s tyre chains packing’s section, the orders start to heap up. Javier, the person in charge, asks for reinforcements. Jairo arrives from another section. Ángela and Karmentxu are hired by a temporary agency to work only during 2 weeks. From 6 am until 2pm, they all pack the tyre  chains in silence, each at their own desk. The weather forecast announces a big storm and the job is taking longer. Before anybody can take notice Angela starts to breach the work regulations making them change gradually.

Se avecina la temporada de invierno. En la sección de embalaje de cadenas para la nieve de una fábrica, los pedidos empiezan a amontonarse. Javier, el encargado, pide refuerzos. Jairo es trasladado de otra sección. Ángela y Karmentxu llegan de una empresa de trabajo temporal para trabajar dos semanas. De seis a dos, los cuatro embalan cadenas en silencio, cada uno en su mesa. La metereología anuncia temporal y el trabajo se prolonga. Sin darse cuenta, Ángela empieza a romper las reglas del trabajo y poco a poco éstas van cambiando.

Matiné 1927

Tomás Camarillo, filmaker and photographer from Guadalajara, shot a series of documentaries between 1927 and 1930, which are the most important cinematographic footage shot before the Civil War in Castilla-La Mancha. Delta films has edit them together allowing us to view the work of this spanish film pioneer for the first time.

Let’s enter the time machine and be transported to a world of customs that no longer exist, where the images of the past comet to life before our eyes.

Tomás Camarillo, cineasta y fotógrafo de Guadalajara, rodó una serie de películas documentales, entre 1927 y 1930, que consituyen el más importante legado cinematográfico rodado con anterioridad a la Guerra Civil en Castilla-La Mancha. Delta Films ha elaborado una obra documental donde por primera vez se puede visiona el trabajo de este pionero de la cinematografía española.

Entremos en la máquina del tiempo y seremos transportados a un mundo de costumbres que ya no existen, donde las imágenes del pasado vuelven a cobrar vida ante nuestros ojos.

The planet is facing a serious threat. At the time of the worst drought ever, a group of criminals are finishing off all the reserves of water that are left on earth. To make things even worse, the wicked Botijola is planning to attack this meeting so as to get rid of all these agents. His intends to make the drink he produces into a replacement for water. For this purpose he also kidnaps the crazy Professor Bacterio and makes him work for him. However, there are two international agents who haven’t gone to the sabotaged meeting and they are going to become the only hope for the world: Mortadelo and Filemon.

Bucarest: La memoria perdida.

“Bucharest” is a documentary about memory. From within a double exile, it follows the personal pursuit of Albert (a journalist born in exile in 1962) to recuperate his own roots. His father, the Spanish politician Jordi Solé Tura, who became a key figure during the Spanish Transition, was obliged to go into exile toward the end of the 1950s for his militant anti-Franco beliefs. Now, after living a life replete with passionate personal and political experiences, Jordi has begun to enter a new, internal exile, this time with no possibility of returning: a fight against Alzheimer’s Disease. Every day, his memory slips further away.With this film, Albert will resurrect the memory not only of his father’s atypical life, but also that of other historical Spanish figures such as Santiago Carrillo, Felipe González, Jorge Semprún and the ex-president of Catalonia Jordi Pujol, and little known episodes in the fight against Franco’s dictatorship and the Cold War. For Albert, many of these experiences are the diffuse recollections of a child. He will travel from one exile to another, trying to recompose the memory of his family, his own memory.

Die Stille vor Bach=El silencio antes de Bach

“The Silence before Bach” is an approach to music and the trades and subjects that surround it through Bach’s works. A look at the profound dramaturgic relationship between image and music where the latter is not merely conceived as subsidiary to the image but as a subject of the narration in its own right. The film springs from a previously defined musical structure. The soundtrack feeds on works by J.S Bach and two of Felix Mendelssohn’s sonatas to create an architectural vault beneath which the story of the film unfolds ; a promenade through the XVIIIth, XIXth and XXIth centuries led by the hand of J.S. Bach.

Fados

After “Flamenco” and “Tango”, Carlos Saura completes his trilogy of modern, urban song with “Fados”. After more than two years research on the Fado, Carlos Saura makes an important change in his approach to musical films. In his previous musical films Iberia, Flamenco and Tango he used dance but in Fados he has worked on the argument and images so that they reflect the origins of this unrefined port music in a unique, original way. This music is in fact, a synthesis of all kinds of music originating in the nineteenth century.

Tras más de dos años de investigación sobre el Fado, Carlos Saura da un salto importante en su aproximación al musical. Si en los musicales anteriores, Iberia, Flamenco, Tango…, Carlos Saura se apoyaba en la danza, en Fados realiza un esfuerzo argumental y de imagen en el que refleja de forma única y original el nacimiento de la música arrabalera, portuaria, que es en sí misma una síntesis de todas las músicas nacidas a fines del XIX.

El prado de las estrellas

The great poet Claudio Rodríguez said “For me, life is like a fable; it is something legendary, not only history and specific dates”. And this is they way this narration is presented to us; as a legend through which certain people are travelling, people who want to live their own lives without becoming dispirited, falling prey to the glittering outward-show the present offers or sinking into melancholy. They carry on their small struggles with humility but also with intelligence and determination. “The meadow of stars” takes its name from the childhood memories of a man called Alfonso who plays a leading part in the film. Fifty odd years later, when these memories have been almost forgotten, Alfonso has retired and is living in the same house as always in a village situated between the violent sea and the foothills of the mountain range which can just be seen in the south above the clouds.

53 días de invierno

Three people meet one winter’s night at a bus stop and witness a dog being abandoned. They are Mila, a secondary teacher who has been on sick leave for a year after being attacked by one of her students; Celso, a married security guard with a child who has serious economic problems but is about to find out that he is going to be a father again but this time to twins; Valeria, a violoncello student with troubled family and sentimental relationships. These three people drift off on a journey that will bring them to face up to their fears and frustrations and then to make an extreme decision that will change their lives.

Cándida

Cándida, a cleaner past retirement age, goes on with her job because it allows her to do what she enjoys most; being kind to others. She is like a Mary Poppins from the Madrid district of San Blas but she comes by underground rather than flying.

Her problems are never ending and her children are a disaster so she dreams of one day escaping to a house in the country with her three hens. When she finally gets what she wants she gives up the miracle to stay with her loved ones.

Cándida, una asistenta que ha pasado la edad de jubilación, aprovecha el trabajo para practicar lo que más le gusta: ser amable con los demás. Como una Mary Poppins del madrileño barrio de San Blas que, en vez  de volar, viene en metro.

Sus problemas son infinitos y sus hijos un desastre, así que sueña con escaparse algún día a una casita en el campo. A ser posible, con tres gallinas. Cuando por fin lo consigue, renuncia al milagro por permanecer cerca de los suyos.

El Camino de San Diego

Tati has lost his job. He now helps Silva, an old sculptor, for whom he collects trunks, branches and roots from the woods that he can use for his work. In exchange he gets a percentage for the sales they make among the few tourists who visit the old village’s market.

Like the majority of the Argentines, Tati adores Diego Armando Maradona. The walls of his house are covered with fotos of his idol and he guards the ticket from the day he saw him in action like the most valuable treasure.

Despite his dramatic financial situation Tati doesn’t lose his cheerful nature. Besides he has another reason for being optimistic: He has found a huge root whose silhouette he finds similar to Maradona’s and which he plans to hand over personally to Diego.

The term “personally” impresses everyone deeply, since meeting him would fulfil his life’s dream. Will he be able to hand over the sculpture to his idol?

Tati ha perdido su trabajo. Ahora ayuda a Silva, un viejo escultor, para quien busca en el monte troncos, ramas y raíces que puedan servirle para hacer sus obras. A cambio, obtiene un porcentaje por las ventas que logre realizar entre los pocos turistas que llegan al mercado del pueblo vecino.

Al igual que la mayoría de los argentinos, Tati tiene adoración por Diego Armando Maradona. Las paredes de su casa están cubiertas de fotos de su ídolo y guarda como el tesoro más preciado, la entrada al estadio del día que lo vio en plena acción.

A pesar de su dramática situación económica, Tati no pierde su espíritu jovial. Tiene además otra razón para su optimismo: ha encontrado una gigantesca raíz con una silueta que él encuentra parecida a Maradona, la cual intentará entregar personalmente a Diego.

La palabra ‘personalmente’ impresiona profundamente a todos, dado que conocerlo sería cumplir el sueño de su vida. ¿Logrará entregar la escultura a su ídolo?

Bar ‘El Chino’

The bar El Chino is where the walls are peeled yet the essence of the tango survives. Its veterans are emblematic, especially its creator, Jorge Garcés, the Chinese man.

 

While he lived, the Chinese man summoned the diverse public, that were meeting in the place and his artists were of an authentic value, without disguises or commercial devices. Jorge, a filmmaker, as he was for years; his friends take it to the Bar el Chino. They know that this place is special to him.

 

During months of filming images, with the idea of capturing from a documentary, the essence there is in it he transmits. He makes friends with both the proprietor and the people. When the Chinese man dies, saddening, it interrupts the filming.

 

One day a visit comes from Martina, a young girl who is fascinated with the Bar el Chino, who decides to short a documentary about the same thing and wants to see the images that Jorge filmed.

El Bar El Chino es un boliche de paredes descascaradas en donde se conserva la esencia del tango. Sus veteranos personajes son emblemáticos, especialmente su creador, Jorge Garcés, El Chino.

Mientras vivió, El Chino convocó a diversos públicos, que encontraban en el lugar y en sus artistas el valor de lo auténtico, sin disfraces ni artificios comerciales. Jorge, cineasta, cumple años; sus amigos lo llevan al Bar El Chino. Saben que ese lugar es especial para él.

Durante meses filmó imágenes, con la idea de capturar desde un documental, la esencia de lo que allí se transmitía. Se hizo amigo del dueño y de su gente. Cuando El Chino murió, entristecido, interrumpió el rodaje.

Un día recibe la visita de Martina, una joven que fascinada por el Bar El Chino, está decidida a rodar un documental sobre el mismo y desea ver las imágines que filmó Jorge.

¿Por qué se frotan las patitas?

In only one day all the women in Luis’  life decide to abandon him. His wife decides to retreat to a Buddhist centre because she’s fed-up with not being appreciated. His daughter goes after her loved one to find out if it’s true he loves someone else. And his mother (who is the secret lover of his father-in-law) goes away with some squatters. The only things Luis can do is to try to find them and for this purpose he takes on Manolete whose original methods are matched by his shrewdness.

Va a ser que nadie es perfecto

Carlos (Fernando Tejero) is blind, Rubén (Santi Millan) is deaf and Dani (José Luis García Pérez) is lame. When Carlos decides to marry his life-long girlfriend his friends Ruben and Dani want to celebrate with a great stag party.

Each one of the friends has a dream and the stag party is the best time for them to fulfil it. Ruben wants to sing, Dani to dance in the water and Carlos to drive a car at 100 miles an hour.

 

Carlos (Fernando Tejero) es ciego, Rubén (Santi Millan) es sordo, y Dani (José Luis García Pérez) es cojo. Cuando Carlos decide casarse con su novia de toda la vida, sus amigos Rubén y Dani quieren celebrar una despedida de soltero de primera.

Cada uno tiene un sueño, y éste es el día perfecto para cumplirlo: Rubén cantar, Dani bailar en el agua y Carlos conducir un coche a 120 km/h.

Lorca, el mar deja de moverse = Lorca, the sea stops still

“The sea stops still” is the definition Lorca gave to murder in a verse of “Poet in New York”. This documentary analyses the last hours of the poet Federico García Lorca and the political and family conspiracy which ended in his murder carried out in the repressive, bloody Granada of 1936.

For the first time, the full names of those guilty of such a sinister crime are revealed. Using the research carried out by the historian Ian Gibson in the seventies and eighties as a base, the researchers from Granada Miguel Caballero and Pilar Góngora have spent several years searching documents in archives, inaccessible for many years, and have collected oral testimonies from people present or near to the events.

Their conclusions are the common thread of this film that has been enriched by the research work of Emilio Ruiz Barrachina the film’s director.

“El mar deja de moverse” es la definición que Lorca da sobre el asesinato en un verso de “Poeta en Nueva York”. Este documental analiza las últimas horas del poeta Federico García Lorca y la trama política y familiar que concluyó con su asesinato, perpetrado en la represiva y sangrienta Granada de 1936.

Por primera vez se descubre, con nombres y apellidos, a los culpables de tan siniestro crimen. Teniendo como base las investigaciones del historiador Ian Gibson de los años 70 y 80, los investigadores granadinos Miguel Caballero y Pilar Góngora han dedicado varios años a la búsqueda de documentos de archivo, inaccesibles durante muchos años, y a recabar testimonios orales de personas presentes o cercanas a los hechos.

Sus conclusiones son el hilo conductor de esta película que se ha enriquecido con el trabajo de investigación del propio director, Emilio Ruiz Barrachina.

El próximo Oriente

Cain is fat, shy and invisible to women. He works as a butcher in the Madrid district of Lavapiés surrounded by immigrants from Morocco, Bangladesh, China, Senegal, Bulgaria, Perú… But Cain feels lonely.

His family is limited to his brother Abel, who is everything Cain would like to be; good-looking, seductive, married to a striking woman and the father of two lovely twin girls.

Our story begins when Cain finds out that his brother Abel has got Aisha, the attractive neighbour and daughter of Muslim immigrants from Bangladesh, pregnant. Cain surprises everyone when he decides to pretend to be the father and take on the maintenance and education of the child.

Caín (gordo y tímido) descubre que su hermano Abel (seductor, casado y con dos niñas) ha dejado embarazada a Aisha una atractiva vecina hija de inmigrantes de Bangladesh, de religión musulmana.

Caín sorprende a todos cuando decide hacerse pasar por el padre y asumir el mantenimiento y la educación de la criatura.
