Three generations of women who are survivors of the easterly wind, fire, madness, superstition, being rewarded for living a good life by death, lies and a have a continuous joi de vivre.

They are: Raimunda, married to an unemployed labourer and her teenage daughter, Sole, her sister, who earns her living as hairdresser and their mother, who died with her husband in a fire. She appears as an apparition first to her sister and then to Sole, even though she had unsettled business with Raimunda and her neighbour, Agustina.

‘Volver’ is not a surreal comedy, though it might seem so at times. The living and the dead live together without problems. They provoke both hilarious situations and others full of deep emotion. “It is a film about the culture of death in my native region, La Mancha. The folk who reside there live simply. The way in which they treat the dead and the sense of humanity mean that the dead never really die.”.

Volver shatters all clichés of a dark Spain and shows a country that is as real as it is contrary. A white Spain, spontaneous, fun, fearless, fair and untied.

Tres generaciones de mujeres sobreviven al viento solano, al fuego, a la locura, a la superstición e incluso a la muerte a base de bondad, mentiras y una vitalidad sin límites.

Ellas son Raimunda casada con un obrero en paro y una hija adolescente. Sole, su hermana, que se gana la vida como peluquera. Y la madre de ambas, muerta en un incendio junto a su marido. Este personaje se aparece primero a su hermana y después a Sole, aunque con quien dejó importantes asuntos pendientes fue con Raimunda y con su vecina del pueblo, Agustina.

Volver no es una comedia surrealista, aunque en ocasiones lo parezca. Vivos y muertos conviven sin estridencias, provocando situaciones hilarantes o de una emoción intensa y genuina. “Es una película sobre la cultura de la muerte en mi Mancha natal. Un grupo de okupas, tras ser desalojados de su centro kultural, entra en la Embajada de Cuba en Madrid al mismo tiempo que Fidel Castro anuncia las primeras elecciones libres… y ya la hemos liado.

La cuadrilla antes de la cuadrilla

Before becoming La Cuadrilla, Luis Guridi and Santiago Aguilar joined up with Raul Barbe (directors) and with Flavio Labiano and Miguel Vidal (producers). They formed an enigmatic group which produced thirty short films in Super-8, and seven on 35 mm, between 1980 and 1990.

Their philosophy was to always behave loutishly. Their budgets were divided equally between pop and punk. It didn´t matter what their work was used for television, literature, musicals or adverts … A decade of forcefullness, brevity and war against the pedantical..

Antes de mutar en La Cuadrilla, Luis Guridi y Santiago Aguilar formaban -con Raúl Barbé en la dirección y Flavio Labiano y Miguel Vidal en la producción- parte de un grupo enigmático que perpetró treinta cortos en super-8 y seis en 35 mm. entre 1980 y 1990.

La filosofia fue siempre la gamberrada. Los presupuestos teóricos se repartían a partes iguales entre el pop y el punk: géneros populares sin importar que el formato de origen fuera televisivo, literario, musical o publicitario… Una década de contundencia, brevedad y guerra a la pedantería.

Mala uva

César is a widower who lives in the countryside with his youngest daughter Luz. He is a tough man but with a kind heart. Although he’s got two more daughters, both married and with children, Luz is the apple of his eye.

He would do “absolutely anything” for her. César earns his living selling the wine he produces on his wonderful farm. It has taken him many years of dedication and sacrifice to build up his “little empire”. His vineyards and his family are his life, his pride and joy.

However, César hides a terrible secret; his former, dangerous profession. A dark profession which unfortunately for him and for others he will have to take up once again to save what he loves the most.

César es un viudo que vive en el campo con su hija menor, Luz. Es un hombre duro, pero de buen corazón. A pesar de tener dos hijas más, todas casadas y con hijos, Luz es su ojito derecho.

Haría “cualquier cosa” por ella. César se gana la vida distribuyendo el vino que produce en su bellísima explotación. Le costó muchos años de dedicación y sacrificio levantar su “pequeño imperio”. Sus viñedos y su familia son su vida. Su orgullo.

Pero César guarda un terrible secreto: su antigua y peligrosa profesión. Una oscura profesión que por desgracia, para él y para otros, tendrá que volver a desempeñar, para salvar lo que más quiere.

Inconscientes = Unconscious

Barcelona, 1913. Alma is possibly one of the most modern women of her day. Her father, Dr. Mira, is the nation’s foremost neurosurgeon. Her husband, Dr. Leon Pardo, also practices medicine as a psychiatrist.

This summer, he visited Vienna and became a follower of the revolutionary Dr. Sigmund Freud and his extraordinarily scandalous, advanced theories about hysteria and sexuality.

It all starts the afternoon Alma comes home and finds her husband in tears, about to disappear from her life and everyone else’s. Giving no more explanation than a few incoherent mumbles, Leon runs off, leaving Alma alone and about to give birth. Salvador is Alma’s brother-in-law and also a psychiatrist.

Despite the fact that he is married to her sister, Salvador, a much more conservative man than Leon, is deeply in love with Alma. That is why he cannot refuse her when Alma asks him to help her find her missing husband. Even though logic warns him he will get into a terrible mess.

The only clue they have is a manuscript about hysteria and female sexuality based on four patients: An actress with a persecution complex, a psychotic woman who tried to murder her husband, a woman with a serious crisis concerning her sexual identity… and a stranger who has discovered a terrible secret about her past. Following those signs, Alma and Salvador start a Sherlock Holmes kind of adventure, where hypnosis, love, danger, and every imaginable taboo are all intertwined.

Barcelona, 1913. Alma es quizá una de las mujeres más modernas de su tiempo. Su padre, el Dr. Mira, es el neurocirujano más prestigioso del país. Su marido, el Dr. León Pardo, ejerce también la medicina como psiquiatra.

Ese verano ha visitado Viena, donde se ha puesto al servicio del revolucionario Dr. Sigmund Freud y sus escandalosísimas y avanzadísimas teorías sobre la histeria y la sexualidad.

Todo empieza la tarde en que Alma llega a casa y encuentra a su marido con los ojos llenos de lágrimas, dispuesto a desaparecer de su vida y de la de los demás. Sin dar más explicaciones que unos balbuceos incomprensibles, León huye, dejando a Alma sola y a punto de dar a luz. Salvador es el cuñado de Alma, también psiquiatra.

Pese a estar casado con la hermana de la protagonista, Salvador, un hombre mucho más conservador que León, está profundamente enamorado de ella. De ahí que, cuando Alma le pide que la ayude a encontrar a su marido desaparecido, él no pueda negarse, pese a que su lógica le indique que se va a meter en un lío terrible.

La única pista es un manuscrito sobre la histeria y la sexualidad femenina basado en cuatro pacientes: Una actriz con manía persecutoria, una psicótica que intentó asesinar a su marido, una mujer con grave crisis de identidad sexual… y una desconocida que ha descubierto en su pasado un terrible secreto. Siguiendo esos indicios, Alma y Salvador inician una aventura a lo Sherlock Holmes, donde la hipnosis, el amor, el peligro y todos los tabúes imaginables se entrecruzan.

Lolo spies on his charming neighbour Andrea with a webcam and manipulates her life. Two thugs, Nene and Tomson discuss, to the point of stupidity, what is the most important cause of cancer, cigarettes or destity.

An extremely fat Russian, Sbóvoda who even distrusts his own shadow, has 20 diamonds to pay Nene for a CD recorded by Lolo with contains the secret entry codes for a Swiss Bank. Everyone is after the diamonds. Svóboda, Nene and Tomson, because it’s their job and Lolo because he hopes to finally win over Andrea with his share and move from  virtual love to a real one.

Astronautas

Daniel is approaching forty. Laura is fifteen… almost sixteen. From what they say about him he must be a poet or a comic-strip illustrator, or both. He has just overcome a long addiction and, once back home, he intends to reorganize his life based on a strategy which consists basically in doing exactly what a “normal” person does.

Everything that happens to Daniel is, more or less, foreseeable because that’s what it’s all about: he should look after his own grooming, take care of the small things, immerse himself in the real world… and so on until he has completed the ten small achievements in his manual, a set of commandments devised by an insipid public heath service psychiatrist.

In the midst of all this, something unexpected happens: Laura arrives in the city searching for her brother Andrés, Daniel’s neighbour. Her brother is not home and she decides to wait for him, while organizing around Daniel what could be his “perfect world”.

Daniel se acerca a los cuarenta años. Laura tiene quince… casi dieciséis. Por lo que dicen de él debe ser poeta, o dibujante de cómics, o ambas cosas. Acaba de superar una larga adicción y, una vez de vuelta en casa, intenta reorganizar su vida en base a una estrategia, que consiste básicamente en hacer exactamente lo que hace una persona ‘normal’.

Todo lo que le ocurre a Daniel es más o menos previsible, porque de eso se trata: deberá preocuparse por su aseo personal, cuidar de las cosas pequeñas, sumergirse en el mundo real, … y así hasta completar las diez pequeñas hazañas que comprende su manual, un DECÁLOGO elaborado por un insípido psiquiatra de la Seguridad Social.

Y en medio de todo esto, un acontecimiento inesperado: Laura llega a la ciudad en busca de su hermano Andrés, vecino de Daniel. Pero el hermano no está en casa y ella decide esperarlo mientras organiza en torno a Daniel lo que podría ser su “mundo perfecto”.

Sin Ton Ni Sonia

Orlando (Juan Manuel Bernal), a neurotic dubbing director for Tv series, lives with Sonia (Mariana Gajá) a woman in search of inner peace. Suffocated by her love, Orlando is incapable of working out the, for him, complicated language that young couples speak, proving uncapable of living alone. Mauricio (José María Yazpik) loves and hates René (Cecilia Suárez) at the same time. At her end René is so tired of the fact that Mauricio prefers cyberspace to her that she decides to abandon him once again.

The harshness of these couples’ love life contrasts with the story of Mamá Rosa (Tara Parra), a charming old nurse that finds her true vocation as a serial killer whith a weakness for happy couples.

Miguel Angel, Izan, Dani and Jorge are a group of teenagers who, with simple happiness manage to defy the cruelty of fate and make their convalescence in the trauma ward of a hospital bearable.

In this situation “Los Pelones” realize the importance of friendship and belonging to a group. Together with their portrayal as a group, each individual is explored personally with relation to their medical situation: Miguel-Angel’s supposedly self-sufficient loneliness, Jorge’s fear of the diagnosis, Izan’s indelible memories, Dani’s emotional anxieties… Humour is the key that “Los Pelones” use to change their luck.

Miguel Ángel, Izan, Dani y Jorge, son un grupo de adolescentes que logran con su alegría desafiar el desprecio del destino y hacer soportable su convalecencia en la planta de traumatología de un hospital.

“Los Pelones” descubren en este contexto la importancia de la amistad y de la pertenencia a un grupo. Pero frente a las reafirmaciones colectivas, está la identidad de cada uno reaccionando a su situación: la soledad pretendidamente autosuficiente de Miguel Ángel, el temor de Jorge al diagnóstico, los recuerdos imborrables de Izan, las inquietudes emocionales de Dani… El humor es la fuerza vital que emplean “Los Pelones” para alterar su suerte.

Mucha sangre

Two prisoners Choro and Cortaojos escape from the top security jail, Torre Bruno, with a sole aim: to collect payment of a millionaire debt from their former partner Vicuña.

 On the way to their friend Tiojuan’s scrap-yard they kidnap Iciar, a girl who seems quite naïve. There they arm themselves to the teeth while they plan how to doVicuña in. It’s his fault that Cortaojos ended up in prison while he kept all the loot.

To everyone’s surprise the evil Vicuña has set up a kind of sect and is leading a terrifying alien invasion which is threatening the whole world, starting off with Spain and in particular Almería.

After getting over masses of obstacles (including a crisis in the friendship) , our heroes face Vicuña and his “sect” in a titanic fight, side by side in a desperate effort to save humanity.

Choro y Cortaojos son dos presos que se escapan de la cárcel de altísima seguridad Torre Bruno, con una única intención: el cobro de una deuda millonaria con su antiguo socio Vicuña.

Camino de la chatarrería de su amigo Tiojuan secuestran a Iciar, una chica aparentemente ingenua. Allí se arman hasta los dientes mientras planean cómo acabar con Vicuña, culpable de que Cortaojos acabara en prisión y de paso quedarse con todo el botín.

Para sorpresa de todos, el malvado Vicuña ha formado una especie de secta y está al frente de una terrorífica invasión alienígena que amenaza a todo el mundo, empezando por España y más concretamente por Almería.

Después de superar multitud de obstáculos (incluida una crisis de amistad), nuestros héroes se enfrentarán codo a codo en la lucha titánica contra Vicuña y su “secta”, en un intento desesperado de salvar a la humanidad.

Justo Santos, a cabaret actor with a talent for imitations, receives a great offer to star in a film with the director of the moment.

Justo and his family see this opportunity as the chance to rise from obscurity and solve their economic problems. However, their dreams of prosperity are suddenly shattered when the director dies unexpectedly during a dinner the night before signing the contract.

Iris, Justo’s partner, suggests they hide the body until the contract has been signed. This seems to be quite straightforward, but things get complicated when Berto, an ex-convict, Justo’s brother and Katy, their mother, a retired cabaret star come in on the plan.

A group of men walk its hilly streets everyday urgently looking for emergency exits in life. With their long-term fear they are tight-rope walkers at the end of the month and at the beginning as well, tight-rope walkers without a safety net and without an audience, with no applause at the end of the show, who walk the tight-rope of precarious jobs everyday, who hold up their existence with scaffolding of hope and who convert their few joys into a refuge, into conversation, into routine as if this shipwreck that they must save themselves from was nothing to do with them, while they chat and laugh about everything and nothing in particular, hopeful, calm, one Monday morning in the sun.

Una ciudad al norte, costera, que hace ya tiempo dio la espalda al campo y se rodeó de industrias que la hicieron crecer desproporcionada, a empujones, que la alimentaron de inmigración y trabajadores y dibujaron para ella un horizonte de chimeneas, de aristas y esperanzas, de futuros desarraigos.

Un grupo de hombres que cada día recorren sus calles en cuesta, buscándole a la vida las salidas de emergencia. One night he meets Laura (Soledad Villamil), a daydreaming waitress who is waiting for the return of her boyfriend, an artist who is mounting a exhibition in Uruguay, of which Laura has not heard from for months.

Laura and Jorge become a couple, and she, convinced that Jorge possesses a great talent, insists that he writes “truthful” literature. However their coexistence deteriorates and their relationship falls apart.

After a lengthy almost two decades, we discover the happiness, the illusions, the disillusions and the hope of these two people and their environment, narrated with humour, emotion, a big dose or irony and a pinch of sarcasm.

Jorge (Ricardo Darín), de 28 años, es una joven promesa de la literatura argentina, aunque en realidad vive de los cuentos románticos que escribe para una revista de actualidad.

Una noche conoce a Laura (Soledad Villamil), una soñadora camarera que sigue esperando el regreso de su novio, un artista que está montando una exposición en Uruguay y del que no tiene noticias desde hace meses.

Laura y Jorge se convierten en pareja, y ella, convencida de que Jorge posee un gran talento, se empeña en que escriba literatura “de verdad”. Pero la convivencia entre ellos se va deteriorando y su relación acaba en ruptura.

A lo largo de casi dos décadas, descubriremos las alegrias, las ilusiones, las desilusiones y la esperanza de estos dos personajes y su entorno, narrados con humor, emoción, grandes dosis de ironía y una pizca de sarcasmo.

Sin noticias de Dios

Heaven has problems: the numbers of souls entering Heaven is decreasing, no one is passing the entrance exams, and the figures indicate complications. Hell, on the other hand, has had a surge of new inmates and the obvious housing problems that incurs.

It seems that the Battle between Good and Evil has been won by the baddies, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It seems that Heaven has received a petition: a woman has asked for her son’s soul to be saved, a boxer with a dark past, and who it would seem is Heaven’s last chance to tip the balance in it’s own favour. The task is clear: turn the boxer’s soul to one side or the other and the most capable angels (from both sides) will decide the course of history.

El cielo tiene problemas: el número de almas que entra al Cielo va en descenso, nadie pasa los exámenes de entrada, y las cifras indican complicaciones. El Infierno, por el contrario, tiene una oleada de nuevos internos y los obvios problemas de espacio que esto provoca.

Parece que la batalla entre el Biel y el Mal ha sido ganada por los malos, pero la luz al final del túnel aparece cuando el Cielo recibe una petición: una madre ha pedido por la salvación del alma de su hijo, un boxeador de pasado oscuro, y al parecer es la última oportunidad de que la balanza se incline hacia el lado Celestial.

El trabajo es muy claro: ganar el alma del boxeador para uno u otro lado, y así es como los ángeles más capacitados -de ambos lados- serán los encargados de decidir el curso de la Historia.

Carne de gallina

In the Quierno family happiness and good humour reigns. On Mondays comes the awaited money that makes their life pink. Also, for more happiness, Glorina gets married, and for her wedding they bought a new house.

However, the wedding will change their lives but not as precisely as they had hoped. After ther party, the godfather, Luison Quiros, dies leaving his family, all unemployed, without his succulent pension and the house in where they live dependent on thread on a mortgage.

En la familia Quirós reina el buen humor y la alegría. El lunes les llega el esperado dinero que hará su vida de color de rosa. Además, para mayor felicidad, se casa Glorina (una boca menos que alimentar.. ¡je, je!) y para su boda han tirado la casa por la ventana.

Sin embargo, la boda va a cambiar su svidas pero no precisamente como sueñan. Tras el banquete, el padrino, Luisón Quirós, muere, dejando a su familia (toda ella en paro) sin su suculenta pensión y con la casa donde habitan pendiente del hilo de una hipoteca.

Y tu mamá también

Julio and Tenoch are typical oversexed and under occupied teenagers.

During a festive afternoon with their famillies they meet Luisa, a twenty eight year old spaniard, and flirt with her with all the style and grace seventeen year olds are known for.

As a joke they invite her to accompany them on a road trip to a beach called “boca del cielo” (heavens mouth) neglecting to mention that they wouldn’t know were to find it, even if it actually exist. To their astonishment, she accepts.

Las vidas de Julio y Tenoch, dos jóvenes de diecisiete años, están regidas por sus hormonas, su amistad y por su deseo de alcanzar la madurez.

Durante una festiva tarde con sus familias, conocen a Luisa, una española de veintiocho años de edad, con la que coquetean con todo el estilo y gracia característico de los jóvenes de su edad. Entre bromas, la invitan a que les acompañe en un viaje a una playa imaginaria a la que llaman Boca del Cielo.

Luisa les ignora amablemente, toman rumbos distintos y todo parece quedar olvidado. Sin embargo, Luisa recibe unas noticias devastadoras, y ante la necesidad de un cambio en su vida, localiza a los muchachos y acepta su oferta.

Miguel is a man with a noble obsession: helping others. Desperate to work with an NGO, he tries everything. When these attempts fail, Miguel finds a way to prove himself as a human being, and starts having relationships with three women at the same time: Fina the slightly crippled one, Gloria, the slightly fat one and Dori, the not very attractive one. Unfortunately, the appearance of Claudia, a beautiful woman without huge problems, tips his “delicate” vital balance.

Rich Kids tells the story of two successful advertising directors, Andy and Tomas who decide to celebrate an important award they just received. The celebration will turn into a wild party with two prostitues, Marsiol and Zuky.

Three friends live with an obsession with the vadette Wanda Manera, who has her partner of splendour during the years of the trial.

The story commences in 1976 (the year in which la Junta Militar takes power), and begins again twice: in 1989 (when the government of Menem is asked) and in 2003 (starting a luck of political futurology), narrating how the passing of time has changed the relationship between the three friends and Wanda.

Tres amigos viven obsesionados con la vedette Wanda Manera, quien tuvo su época de esplendor durante los años del Proceso.

La historia comienza en 1976 (el año en que la Junta Militar toma el poder), y se reinicia dos veces: en 1989 (cuando asume el gobierno de Menem) y en 2003 (haciendo una suerte de futurología política), narrando como el paso de los años va modificando la relación entre los tres amigos y Wanda.
