El prado de las estrellas

The great poet Claudio Rodríguez said “For me, life is like a fable; it is something legendary, not only history and specific dates”. And this is they way this narration is presented to us; as a legend through which certain people are travelling, people who want to live their own lives without becoming dispirited, falling prey to the glittering outward-show the present offers or sinking into melancholy. They carry on their small struggles with humility but also with intelligence and determination. “The meadow of stars” takes its name from the childhood memories of a man called Alfonso who plays a leading part in the film. Fifty odd years later, when these memories have been almost forgotten, Alfonso has retired and is living in the same house as always in a village situated between the violent sea and the foothills of the mountain range which can just be seen in the south above the clouds.

La zona

Alejandro is an adolescent who lives in a closed, self-sufficient residential Zone that has plenty of private security. Increasing delinquency, fears of violence and lawlessness have forced both the family and the rest of the residents to choose this place as their last haven of peace. One day in the early morning three intruders manage to enter the area but two of the thieves are gunned down by the private security guards. The third thief manages to escape and is at large in the interior of the Zone. After an acrimonious discussion and aware of the prevailing corruption and inefficiency, the majority of the neighbours in the Zone decide to take justice into their own hands.

Barcelona: un mapa

The old man, who was formerly a doorman at the opera and who likes to dress up in women’s clothes, gets them all together and asks them to leave as he is going to die and wants to be alone for the last stage of his life. In this non-descript Barcelona flat, incest, homosexuality and adultery are intertwined in the life of these characters… whilst we simultaneously witness the passing of time in this Mediterranean city.
