Cecilia Ureta (María José Prieto), the most famous news presenter in Chile, is presenting the results of a survey carried out by the United Nations. This survey shows that 62% of Chilean women are or have been unfaithful.

Ironically, Cecilia is having an affair with the owner of the television channel. A rival colleague maliciously exposes this affair during the live broadcast, with tragic results.

This revelation prompts others, and the subject spreads, to include issues of sexual satisfaction, and turns into a national interest.

Cecilia Ureta (María José Prieto) la presentadora estrella del noticiario televisivo con mayor audiencia de Chile, da a conocer los resultados de una encuesta de Naciones Unidas cuya conclusión afirma que el 62% de las mujeres chilenas son o han sido infieles alguna vez.

Irónicamente, Cecilia mantiene una relación extramatrimonial con el dueño de la cadena. Con malicia, un colega rival pone al descubierto este vínculo durante la retransmisión en directo con resultados trágicos.

La revelación desencadena otras, y el tema se ramifica, incluyendo otros tópicos como la satisfacción sexual, convirtiéndose en un tema de interés nacional.

Frágil

Entre vivir y soñar

Ana is a forty-something woman who lives with her husband Felix and her 17 year-old daughter Marta. She has a routine life of giving cooking classes and having French classes.

Nothing extraordinay happens as the days go by. Every day she prepares an olive toast for Félix and takes the same way to go work, where the same thing happens.

Her life would be completely normal if it wasn´t for the fact that when she was alone she began to day-dream imagining a very different life. Ana has two lives, her real one and her ideal one. This only exists in her head, her dreams.

Ana es una mujer de más de cuarenta años que vive junto a su marido Félix y su hija de diecisiete años Marta. Lleva una vida rutinaria, da clases de cocina y recibe cursos de francés.

No sabía que se iba a acomodar en , cómo definirlo: las circunstancias, la realidad de la vida. Cada día prepara la misma tostada de aceite para Félix y hace el mismo recorrido para ir a su trabajo donde siempre ocurre lo mismo. Así pasa día tras día sin que nada extraordinario suceda.

Todo esto sería normal si no fuera porque cuando Ana se queda sola, su cabeza comienza a soñar, a imaginar una vida diferente a la que lleva. Porque Ana tiene dos vidas, la real y la que desea, la que sólo existe en su pensamiento, en sus sueños.

Conversaciones con mamá

Mother is eighty two years old and Jaime, her son, is fifty. They both live in very different worlds. Jaime has a wife, two sons, a lovely home, two cars and a mother-in-law to look after.

Mother manages to get by on her own and is a dignified old woman. One day the company where Jaime works gives him the sack out because of a staff reshuffle. This unfortunate situation leads him to make drastic decisions since he cannot continue with his previous style of life.

When Jaime goes to the flat to tell his mother that the only thing he can do is sell it, something happens which destroys all his hopes. This is going to bring a radical change to his life; his mother has a partner who is going to come and live with her in her flat whatever it costs and whoever suffers.

Mamá tiene ochenta y dos años y su hijo Jaime, cincuenta. Ambos viven en mundos muy diferentes. Jaime tiene mujer, dos hijos, una hermosa casa, dos coches y una suegra que atender.

Mamá se las arregla sola y sobrelleva su vejez con dignidad. Pero un día la empresa para la que trabaja Jaime lo deja en la calle por razones de ajuste de personal. La lamentable situación lo lleva a decisiones drásticas porque no puede mantener su tren de vida.

Cuando Jaime va al apartamento para decirle a su madre que no tiene más remedio que venderlo, sucede algo que desmorona todas sus expectativas y que va a producirle un cambio radical en su existencia: mamá tiene un novio, con quien piensa quedarse a vivir en su apartamento cueste lo que cueste y caiga quien caiga.

Días de Santiago

What are you going to do now? That is the question everyone is asking Santiago, a 23 year-old just out of the Navy. Each time the answer is less optimistic.

He could remain coconed in his family´s house, look for office jobs where he would have to put up with low wages and maltreatment from bosses. He could be a taxi driver carting people back and forth from discos, or he could listen to his ex-military friends who are planning to rob a bank.

¿Y ahora que vas a hacer? Es la pregunta, que todos le hacen a Santiago un joven de 23 años recien salido de la Marina. Y las respuestas se vuelven cada vez menos optimistas.

Puede quedarse en casa protegido por su familia, buscar trabajos de oficina en los que tendrá que soportar bajos sueldos y el maltrato de sus jefes, puede hacer de taxista llevando y trayendo gente de las discotecas, o puede escuchar a sus amigos ex-militares que planean robar un banco.

Joves (Jóvenes) = Youth

Jordi is a young stockbroker who bets on the markets, whatever it costs. Christina only wants to enjoy herself. On her birthday she mixes uncontrolledly  a cocktail of drugs, alcohol and sex. Pau has no plans. Carried away by his vain search for new emotions  he gets to adopt violent and xenofobic attitudes. Three young people pursuing a happiness that turns out to not exist.

Cineastes contra magnats = Cineastas contra magnates = Filmakers vs. Tycoons

A film essay in defence of the Moral Rights of film-makers versus the manipulations suffered by films from the origins of the cinema to the total domination of the audiovisual world.

“Filmmakers vs. Tycoons” combines distinct types of film language: archive material, fundamental fragments of films and fictional scenes such as that set in the Court of Felipe II when the Monarch cuts down a cinemascope picture by Titian on both sides because it doesn’t fit into the space he had kept for it in El Escorial.

With this action the King of Spain became the inventor of panning-scanning which alters the original format of films in our time.

Ensayo cinematográfico en defensa de los derechos morales de los cineastas frente a las manipulaciones que sufren las películas desde los orígenes del cine hasta el dominio actual del mundo audiovisual.

“Cineastas contra magnates” combina distintas formas de lenguaje cinematográfico: material de archivo, fragmentos de films fundamentales y escenas de ficción, como la ambientada en la corte de Felipe II cuando el monarca amputó por ambos lados una cinemascópica pintura de Ticiano porque no cabía en el espacio que le tenía reservado en El Escorial.

Con esta acción el Rey de España se convirtió en el inventor del panning-scanning que en nuestra época altera el formato original de las películas.

Whisky

Jacobo Köller is the owner of a modest hosiery factory in Uruguay. This seems to be the only thing in his boring life. Marta is his trusted employee. The relationship between them never goes further than work and is characterized by silence and routine.

“Whisky” begins when Jacobo asks Marta for help for the unexpected and inminent visit of Jacobo’s brother, Herman, who lives abroad and hasn’t been in touch for years.

El asombroso mundo de Borjamari y Pocholo

In the eighties Borjamari and Pocholo are totally at home in the night life at the Aguacates discotheque. Experts in playing nasty tricks on the “chicks”, they´re so self-confident they’re the self-styled kings of the club. Twenty years later everything is just the same except that now everyone pokes fun at the two brothers.

Their cousin Pelayo who they used to laugh at and treat badly in their teenage years returns onto the scene. Now he is a modern skier, popular and a big success with the girls. He gets his own back on Borjamari and Pocholo for their past cruelty by telling them that Mecano is going to get together again in a surprise concert.

En las noches de los años 80, Borjamari y Pocholo se mueven a sus anchas en la discoteca Aguacates. Expertos en hacer bromas “canallas” a las “niñas”, con su desparpajo son los reyes del local. Veinte años después, todo sigue igual. Sólo que ahora, los dos hermanos ya no son nada en Aguacates ni en el nuevo mundo. Nada excepto objeto de mofa y burla.

Su primo Pelayo, de quien solían reírse y abusar en la adolescencia, ahora es un moderno esquiador, ligón y popular. No ha dejado pasar el tren y se venga de las antiguas crueldades de Borjamari y Pocholo anunciándoles que Mecano va a reunirse en un concierto sorpresa.

On March 11th, 2004, Madrid suffered a chain of terrorist attacks on trains en route to the central station, killing nearly two hundred people and destroying or altering the future of thousands who were affected directly by the tragedy. A group of film directors had the intention of going deeper than the usual news coverage and wanted to contribute a plurality of viewpoints, resulting in a collective film in memory of the victims of the M11 attacks, in solidarity with them and their relatives, in repudiation of the violence of terrorism and with the will to defend democratic values and the freedom to coexist.

El 11 de Marzo de 2004 Madrid sufrió una cadena de atentados terroristas en los trenes que conducían a su estación central, muriendo cerca de doscientas personas y destruyendo o alterando el futuro de miles de personas que se vieron afectadas directamente por la tragedia. Un grupo de cineastas, más allá del flujo informativo, y con la intención de aportar una pluralidad de puntos de vista, han realizado un film colectivo en memoria de los asesinados en los atentados del 11M, en solidaridad con las víctimas y sus familiares, en repudio a la violencia del terrorismo y con la voluntad de obrar en la defensa de los valores democráticos y de la convivencia en libertad.

Cosas que hacen que la vida valga la pena = Things that Make Life Worth Living

Hortensia is a bored office worker in the INEM (National Employment Office). She’s divorced and hasn’t had a relationship since her husband left her for a younger woman.

She spends all her time looking after her son or at work and doesn’t pay any attention to the advice from América, her best friend, who tries to get her to enjoy herself, now!. Jorge, an ordinary guy, separated and optimistic is going to be the person in charge of changing her life. Convinced fate has decided to give him another chance he thinks Hortensia is the key to finding happiness.

The relationships and affairs between Jorge, Hortensia, her best friend, Hortensia’s ex-husband, the new Chinese boyfriend of Jorge’s ex-wife, Jorge’s father and Hortensia’s son bring both humor and a vividness to this story.

We were 14 or 15 years old. Our whole lives were ahead of us. The intensity of religious ideas and the discovery of sexual desire gave us a thirst for life. We were restless in making our secret plans.

In its roar complexity we understood the world more than we understood ourselves. We were excited because we had a holy mission, but we still weren´t aware what it was. Each house, each hallway, each bedroom, each gesture, was necessary for our vigil. The world was grotesquely beautiful. It was then when I met Dr. Jano.

León y Olvido = León and Olvido

Olvido is a 21-year-old woman. León, her twin brother, has Down ’s syndrome. They were orphened four or five years ago. Their only inheritance was the rent to pay, of the flat where they live and an old car.

A conflict is developing between them: Olvido wants León to agree to go to a boarding school or for him to travel to and from school by himself and does his share of housework. León intends to do as little as possible.

Olvido es una mujer de veintiún años. León, su hermano mellizo, tiene síndrome de Down. Hace cuatro o cinco años que quedaron huérfanos, y como única herencia les quedó el alquiler de la casa en la que viven y un viejo coche.

Entre ellos se desarrolla un conflicto: Olvido quiere que León acepte ir a un internado o vaya y venga solo de la escuela y se ocupe de algunas tareas de la casa. León intenta que las tareas sean las menos posibles.

Las cajas españolas

During the Spanish Civil War the Republican government set up the Committee for the Defense of Art Treasures with the aim of conserving works in the Prado Art Gallery and preventing damage to them during the conflict.

The film reconstructs the difficulties and the journey of these works of art from the day they were packed up in a total of 1,868 boxes until their arrival in Geneva. There the International Committee was established for the safe-keeping of Spanish Treasures and it took care of the boxes until their return to the gallery on 9 September 1939.

Durante la Guerra Civil Española, el gobierno republicano creó la Junta de Defensa del Tesoro Artístico, con el objetivo de preservar las obras del Museo del Prado y evitar que fueran destruidas en el transcurso de la contienda.

 La película reconstruye las visicitudes y el recorrido de esas obras de arte, desde que fueron embaladas en un total de 1868 cajas hasta su llegada a Ginebra. Allí se creo un comité internacional para el salvamento del tesoro español, y se custodiaron las cajas hasta su regreso al museo, el 9 de septiembre de 1939.

Frío sol de invierno

Adrián, an atractive twenty-five year old, is discharged from the sanatorium to which he is periodically admited for psychiatric treatment.

His mother is dead and that very morning a lawyer tells him that his father intends to abandon the city and live with another woman, leaving him to inherit the empty family house. Early the next morning Gonzalo, an adolescent who gets by on odd, often shady jobs, unloads a truck in a used car dump.

His mother Raquel has spent years living rough as a prostitute on the streets. Her relationship with her son becomes increasingly difficult, despite Gonzo´s efforts to please her.

Adrián, un atractivo joven de veinticinco años, recibe el alta médica en el sanatorio donde ingresa periódicamente debido a sus problemas mentales.

De familia adinerada y huérfano de madre, esa misma mañana el abogado de su padre le comunica la intención de éste de abandonar la ciudad para vivir su vida al lado de otra mujer, dejándole a su nombre la casa familiar ahora vacía.

Esa misma noche Gonzalo, un adolescente que se busca la vida en trabajos esporádicos y que a menudo rozan el delito, descarga un camión en un cementerio de coches, bien entrada ya la madrugada.

Su madre, Raquel, malvive desde hace muchos años de la prostitución callejera y la relación con Gonzalo es cada vez más difícil pese a los intentos del chico de agradar a ésta.

Aventuras de Molécula y el Canguro Boxy

In viaggio con Che Guevara = De viaje con el Che Guevara

In 1952, Ernesto Guevara, then a 23 year-old student of medecine, and his friend Alberto Granado, a 29 year-old biologist, started a long journey of South America.

During their voyage, which started on an old motorbike and finished with hitch-hiking, and they were first-hand witnesses of the difficult conditions of life of the people living in the countries they passed.

Guevara, who would soon be known as, “el Che”, wrote a diary of his experiences. In 2002 the Brazilian director Walter Salles shot a film, “The motercycle diaries”, about this epic journey. This documentary which is the natural successor to the film includes intervues with different people involved.

En 1952, Ernesto Guevara, entonces estudiante de medicina de 23 años, y su amigo Alberto Granado, biólogo de 29, iniciaron un largo viaje por el continente sudamericano.

Durante su periplo, que empezaron con una vieja motocicleta para continuar luego en autostop, fueron testigos de primera mano de las duras condiciones de vida de la población de los países que atravesaron.

Guevara, que pronto sería conocido como el Che, registró sus impresiones en un diario. En 2002, el director brasileño Walter Salles emprendió el rodaje de un film sobre esa odisea juvenil, “Diarios de motocicleta”, que este documental sigue a su vez con detalle, incorporando entrevistas con diversos participantes.

El Lobo

The Basque country in the seventies. “Txema”, an E.T.A colaborator is caught by the police. Giving in to their pressure, he is forced to infiltrate the terrorist group.

With the name “The Wolf” (El Lobo), he embarks on an almost suicidal mission. No one knows that he is a “mole”, except for the police who set up the operation. He won’t always be able to count on their support. “The Wolf” is alone.

Pais Vasco. Años 70. “Txema” es un colaborador de ETA que cae en manos de la policía. Sometido a presión, se ve obligado a infiltrarse en la cúpula de la banda terrorista.

Con el nombre clave de “El Lobo”, emprende una misión casi suicida. Nadie sabe que él es un “topo”, excepto los policías que han puesto en marcha la operación. Y no siempre podrá contar con su apoyo. “El Lobo” está solo.

Luna de Avellaneda

Luna de Avellaneda is the story of an emblematic neighborhood social club: it used to be part of a splendor and finds itself today in the midst of a crisis that threatens its very existence. It would seem the only thing to do is to make it a casino, but nothing would negate as much its foundational values and the goals for which it was created in the 40’s: a social, sports and cultural club. The founders descendants will debate whether they should save themselves whatever the cost or meet again with those dreams.

A thirty something year old journalist goes to cover a press conference where María Zambrano has been awarded the Cervantes prize. She hardly knows anything about her but she doesn’t need to because almost immediately the words spoken by this woman arouse a feeling of curiosity in her which goes beyond the news.

Lola knows that Zambrano was a teacher, just like her mother. The difference was that the Andalusian philosopher could not practice her profession, like many other intellectuals educated during the Republic. They were forced to live a long exile.

Lola is captivated by the personality of this fighter, to the point where she writes an essay and even makes a film about her. The journalist could never have imagined that this decision to make close contact with María Zambrano was to influence her life and her most personal experiences. The spectator finds out about these almost at the same time as Lola herself.

Una periodista, Lola, de treinta y tantos años acude a cubrir la rueda de prensa con motivo de la concesión del Cervantes a María Zambrano. Apenas si tiene datos sobre ella, pero no los necesita porque casi de inmediato las palabras de esta mujer despiertan su curiosidad más allá de la noticia.

Lola sabe que Zambrano era profesora, casualmente como su madre, a diferencia de que la filósofa andaluza no pudo ejercer su magisterio, como tantos otros intelectuales formados en la República, viéndose obligada a vivir un largo exilio.

Lola queda cautivada con la personalidad de esta luchadora, hasta el punto de que se lanza a realizar, no ya un reportaje, sino una película sobre ella. La periodista no imaginó jamás que esta decisión –en definitiva, el haber conocido de cerca a María Zambrano– fuera a influir en su vida y sus peripecias más personales, que el espectador va descubriendo casi al tiempo que la misma Lola.

Falsa culpable

Carmen was accused of a girl´s murder and is now, after two years in jail, released thanks to her lawyer´s appeal.

Ever since her incarceration, until the trial and her subsequent sentence, the media have broadcasted Carmen´s private life, especially her sexual preferences. These have been deciding factors for the public condemnation. Carmen however, has always pleaded innocent.

Now that she is home she remains without work and abandoned by her family and friends. She has become an object of media focus and an involuntary feature on chat shows. Carmen is harassed by the girl´s real murderer. Nobody believes her.

Desde su detención hasta el juicio y la posterior condena, los medios de comunicación han aireado la vida privada de Carmen, haciendo especial hincapié en sus preferencias sexuales que han sido decisivas para su linchamiento y condena por parte de la opinión pública. Pero Carmen siempre se ha declarado inocente.

Ahora que ya está en su casa, sin trabajo, abandonada por su familia y sus amigos, en el punto de mira de los medios de comunicación y como protagonista involuntaria de programas de chismorreo, Carmen es asediada por el verdadero asesino de la chica. Pero nadie le cree.
