A Federal Attorney starts to investigate, despite getting continuous threats and attacks, convinced that a tragedy of such a magnitude could not possibly be attributed to a pilot’s error. He eventually takes the company’s Board of Directors and the Air Forces Heads to court in a unique precedent in the History of commercial aviation.

Cautiva

Set in 1994 Buenos Aires, writer/director/producer Gaston Biraben’s feature debut puts its protagonist, the 15-year-old Cristina Quadri (Barbara Lombardo), smack dab in the middle of an almost impossible situation. In the span of one afternoon, the young woman has her life irrevocably changed.

Raised in a upper crust family (her father a former police chief), Cristina is called away from her Catholic school one day and informed by a federal judge that her mother and father are not actually her biological parents. Cristina, as expected, resists believing these statements at first, but soon the evidence becomes irrefutable. Against the protests of her adoptive parents, Cristina is placed in the custody of her biological grandmother (Susan Campos), and legally becomes Sofia Lombardi.

It turns out that Cristina/Sofia’s parents “disappeared” during Argentina’s military rule in the 1970s, where the fates of government objectors were, more often than not, very grim ones. As Cristina/Sofia comes to discover, the people she has known as mother and father may even be in some way responsible for the “disappearance” of her natural parents.

Entonces se entera de que sus verdaderos padres “desaparecieron” durante la dictadura militar que Argentina sufrió durante los 70, cuando el destino de los oponentes al gobierno era habitualmente bastante sombrío. Cristina/Sofía se entera también de que las personas que ha conocido como madre y padre son en cierta manera también responsables de la “desaparición” de sus padres biológicos.

El Camino de San Diego

Tati has lost his job. He now helps Silva, an old sculptor, for whom he collects trunks, branches and roots from the woods that he can use for his work. In exchange he gets a percentage for the sales they make among the few tourists who visit the old village’s market.

Like the majority of the Argentines, Tati adores Diego Armando Maradona. The walls of his house are covered with fotos of his idol and he guards the ticket from the day he saw him in action like the most valuable treasure.

Despite his dramatic financial situation Tati doesn’t lose his cheerful nature. Besides he has another reason for being optimistic: He has found a huge root whose silhouette he finds similar to Maradona’s and which he plans to hand over personally to Diego.

The term “personally” impresses everyone deeply, since meeting him would fulfil his life’s dream. Will he be able to hand over the sculpture to his idol?

Bar ‘El Chino’

The bar El Chino is where the walls are peeled yet the essence of the tango survives. Its veterans are emblematic, especially its creator, Jorge Garcés, the Chinese man.

 

While he lived, the Chinese man summoned the diverse public, that were meeting in the place and his artists were of an authentic value, without disguises or commercial devices. Jorge, a filmmaker, as he was for years; his friends take it to the Bar el Chino. They know that this place is special to him.

 

During months of filming images, with the idea of capturing from a documentary, the essence there is in it he transmits. He makes friends with both the proprietor and the people. When the Chinese man dies, saddening, it interrupts the filming.

 

One day a visit comes from Martina, a young girl who is fascinated with the Bar el Chino, who decides to short a documentary about the same thing and wants to see the images that Jorge filmed.

El Bar El Chino es un boliche de paredes descascaradas en donde se conserva la esencia del tango. Sus veteranos personajes son emblemáticos, especialmente su creador, Jorge Garcés, El Chino.

Mientras vivió, El Chino convocó a diversos públicos, que encontraban en el lugar y en sus artistas el valor de lo auténtico, sin disfraces ni artificios comerciales. Jorge, cineasta, cumple años; sus amigos lo llevan al Bar El Chino. Saben que ese lugar es especial para él.

Durante meses filmó imágenes, con la idea de capturar desde un documental, la esencia de lo que allí se transmitía. Se hizo amigo del dueño y de su gente. Cuando El Chino murió, entristecido, interrumpió el rodaje.

Un día recibe la visita de Martina, una joven que fascinada por el Bar El Chino, está decidida a rodar un documental sobre el mismo y desea ver las imágines que filmó Jorge.

Pérez: el ratoncito de tus sueños

Lucía, an active little girl, looses a tooth. Santiago, her father, is an out-of-work boss, and her mother, Pilar, is a successful but overworked architect, reassure Lucía, by telling her that the Hairy Tooth Fairy (a mouse named Perez) will come to her bedroom to collect her tooth, leaving some money in its place. A mouse who had been monitoring the situation tells another mouse, who in turn tells another mouse… until finally the news reaches Pérez, The Hairy Tooth Fairy, who lives in a boat in the port along with hundreds of other mice. They receive the teeth that he collects, and then clean, shape and polish them so that they can be transformed into shiny round pearls. These pearls are then carried through the city’s sewers until finally they reach the jewellers owned by Morientes, where an old friend exchanges them for their weight in gold. What would normally be a routine trip for the legendary rodent takes an unexpected turn for the worse when heartless, malicious scoundrels kidnap Pérez to take his boat and his fortune for themselves. Lucía, with the help of her cousin Ramiro, disobeys her parents and sets out to rescue Pérez, thus beginning a fascinating adventure with an outcome that just goes to show that you don’t have to be a child to believe.

El Destino

In the mid-sixteenth century two indigenous Americans are working on a seam of clay in the Cerro Colorado. Suddenly, they see a column of Spanish soldiers approaching from the distance.

Two Franciscan priests are marching at the head of the procession carrying a wooden cross and a beautiful gold chalice. The meeting is unavoidable… Five hundred years later a small airplane lands on a desolate landing strip in the Andean high plateau.

Pedro, a Spaniard wearing a priest’s cassock, gets out. His task is simple. He has to hand over a case of money and return with the cocaine to be sold. However destiny has other plans in store for him.

Pedro, un español traficante de drogas, aterriza con su avioneta en un lugar del altiplano andino disfrazado de cura. Su misión es comprar cocaína para llevarla de vuelta a su país.

Tiempo de valientes

Mariano Silverstein (Diego Pereti) is a psychoanalyst who after being convicted is serving his sentence realizing community services. The judge assigns him the task of looking after Alfredo Díaz (Luis Luque), a police inspector who is devastated by his wife’s infidelity. That’s how Silverstein gets to improvise an itinerant psychoanalysis session while he accompanies Díaz through his investigation of a crime, becoming ever more absorved by the police universe. But the relationship between these two strangers will definitely change when Doctor Silverstein asks Diaz to come to dinner to his house with his wife and he introduces him to his own wife.

El Cielito

Felix, a young, 20 year old tramp, has come to a little, lost town in the interior of Argentina. In the station he finds by chance, an unemployed builder, who offers Felix a job in the farmhouse where he lives, with his wife, Mercedes and his son Chango who is hardly one year old.

 

It is there, in this context of loneliness, under the burning sun of the Pampa, where Felix discovers bit by bit the daily tension, violent and mute, in which they survive.

 

At the same time in which the pair is destroyed, a true story of love emerges between small Chango and Felix.

 

This marginal and solitary being finally finds a sense to his life: to save the child from the chaos.

Félix, un joven vagabundo de 20 años, llega a un pueblito perdido del interior de Argentina. En la estación se encuentra por casualidad, un desocupado devenido en albañil, que le ofrece a Félix un trabajo en la chacra donde vive, con su mujer, Mercedes y su hijo Chango de apenas un año.

Iluminados por el fuego = Enlightened by fire

Enlightened by Fire portrays the memories of 40-year-old Esteban Leguizamon. In 1982 he was sent to fight on Malvinas Islands as a conscript when he was only 18 years old. An ex-colleague’s attempted suicide triggers wartime memories, the times he shared with two young recruits: Vargas, who tried to commit suicide, and Juan, who died in combat.

He is reminded of not only the horrors of war, the suffering from the cold and hunger, but also the memories of friendship and camaraderie. From Esteban’s perspective we are shown how their lives become slowly entwined by the hand of death. Twenty years after the war Esteban decides to return to the Malvinas in order to confront his past and try to heal his open wounds.

Iluminados por el Fuego narra los recuerdos de Esteban Leguizamón, un hombre de 40 años que, en 1982, cuando tenía sólo 18, fue llevado como soldado recluta a combatir a las islas Malvinas. A partir del intento de suicidio de uno de sus ex compañeros, Esteban se sumerge en los recuerdos de esa guerra que compartió con otros dos jóvenes reclutas: Vargas, el suicida, y Juan, muerto en combate.

Allí aparecen no sólo los horrores propios de la guerra y el padecimiento del frío y del hambre, sino también las historias de amistad y compañerismo. Desde la mirada de Esteban, la película pone en evidencia la lenta y gradual inmersión de sus frágiles vidas en el corazón mismo de la muerte. A los 20 años de la guerra, Esteban decide volver a las Malvinas para reencontrarse con su pasado y cerrar sus viejas heridas.

Hermanas

Natalia Levin, an Argentine journalist based in Spain, is reunited with her sister Elena for the first time in nine years, after a long night in 1975, when she was forced into exile.

Elena has settled in Texas, where her husband, Sebastián, works for a multinational company. Natalia remembers the events leading up to her departure that she has never clarified in her mind.

Elena makes an effort to bury her painful memories in the backyard of the “American dream.” The reunion will make both sisters face the truth with open eyes and hearts.

“Sisters” is a story about being uprooted and the need to regain one’s identity through memory. It is a film of contrasts, of two different cultures, languages and decades: the 70’s and the 80’s, Argentina and the United States. The intensity, passion and violence of the 70’s in that Latinamerican country, juxtaposes the comforts, stability and calm of the USA in the 80’s, at the height of the Republican years.

Natalia Levin, periodista argentina radicada en España, se reencuentra con su hermana Elena por primera vez en nueve años después de una noche larga de 1975 en la que tuvo que huir al exilio.

Elena se ha establecido en Texas, donde Sebastián, su marido, fue contratado por una multinacional. En la memoria de Natalia resuenan los acontecimientos nunca esclarecidos que precedieron a su partida.

Elena se esfuerza por enterrar sus dolorosos recuerdos en el jardín del “sueño americano”. Al reencontrarse, ambas hermanas deberán confrontar la verdad con los ojos y el corazón abiertos.

“Hermanas” es una historia de desarraigos, de la necesidad de recuperar la identidad a través de la memoria. Es también una película de contrastes. El Aura

“The Aura” tells in the first person the extraordinary trip of a character with no name, a taxidermist, an introverted, obscure man who has a strange obsession for an honest man: again and again over recent years, he has planned and imagined the most perfectly executed robberies.

They’re always successful – thanks to his intelligence which, he claims, marks him apart from the idiots-fighting-idiots struggle of cops and robbers. He could carry it off better than anybody else.

Taken away from his urban habitat and transported to the remote forests of the south to take part in a day’s hunting, a tragic accident unexpectedly gives him the chance to commit a real crime: an attack on an armored security truck carrying the takings from a nearby casino.

Motivated at first by morbid curiosity, and then carried along by the momentum of events, this taxidermist will be hurled right into his fantasies, and compelled to assemble, piece by piece, a complex jigsaw puzzle of events which will slowly trap him inescapably.

El método (El método Gronhölm)

Madrid. Seven hopeful applicants for a top executive job attend a selection procedure for staff for a multinational company in a skyscraper in offices in the Paseo de la Castellana.

After a labyrinth of forms, accreditations and other red tape the seven participants find themselves together in a cold room where the secretary has taken them to wait for the selection procedure to begin.

After warily introducing themselves to each other they wonder if they are being observed by cameras and why the company has infiltrated a psychologist among them who is already examining them.

One of the applicants mentions a method of tests, similar to the one they suggested, which is practised in the United States to decide which of them has the profile which fits in the best with the requirements of the fierce business world.

Madrid. Siete aspirantes a un alto puesto ejecutivo se presentan a una prueba de selección de personal para una empresa multinacional. Entre ellos, las personalidades más dispares: el triunfador, el agresivo, la mujer insegura, el crítico, el indeciso…

Los siete participantes se encuentran juntos en una fría sala a la que les ha conducido una secretaria, esperando a que de comienzo el proceso de selección.

En un claustrofóbico clima de máxima desconfianza y absoluta falta de escrúpulos, se crearán alianzas, se producirán disputas, se revelarán secretos, se destaparán pasados… Y así, poco a poco, se irán eliminando participants en lo que pasará a ser una mera y fría lucha por la supervivencia, nítido espejo del desalmado panorama laboral fuera de esas paredes de cristal y hormigón, en cualquier país capitalista partícipe en esta, nuestra economía global.

Vientos de agua

The story of Spanish immigrants who went to Argentina, and of their Argentine descendants, who are now immigrating to Spain, escaping from a country in crisis. Vientos de Agua centres on Andres, a young Spaniard who, in the 1930s, flees Spain for political reasons and relocates to Argentina.

The series shows, his flight from Spain and resettlement in Argentina. Andres finds himself in a Buenos Aires tenement, along with other immigrants who accompany him.

He starts begins to form friendships and love stories. Parallel to Andres´ story is the one of Ernesto, a 45 year old Argentine, Andres´ son, who whilst suffering from the crisis in 2001 decides to go to Spain to try his luck and possibly moves his whole family there.

Una historia de emigrantes españoles que fueron a Argentina y de sus descendientes argentinos que en el presente emigran a España escapando de un país en crisis. Vientos de Agua se centra en Andrés, un joven español que en los años 30 huye de España por razones políticas y recala en Argentina.

A lo largo de la serie se narra su huida de España y su llegada y arraigo en la Argentina. Andrés se establece en un conventillo porteño junto a otros inmigrantes que lo acompañan, y va forjando amistades y amores.

En paralelo a la historia de Andrés se cuenta la de Ernesto, argentino de 45 años e hijo de Andrés, que en plena crisis del año 2001 decide irse a España para probar suerte y eventualmente llevar a su familia allí.

El viento

Pain, guilt and the search for happiness are the focal points of Frank’s story – a cattle farmer who has never left his small town in Patagonia. The death of his daughter sends him to Buenos Aires and back into touch with his granddaughter Alina.

Frank comes bearing not only the news of Alina’s mother’s death, but also his own forgotten memories and a secret he swore never to reveal that will have a profound affect on Alina’s life.

El dolor, la culpa y la búsqueda de la felicidad son los ejes de la historia de Frank (Federico Luppi) un campesino de La Patagonia que nunca salió de su pueblo. La muerte de su hija le llevará hasta Buenos Aires para reencontrarse con su nieta Alina (Antonella Costa).

Frank lleva consigo la noticia de la muerte de la madre de Alina, sus recuerdos y un secreto que había jurado no desvelar. La corta estancia de su abuelo renovará los lazos afectivos y permitirá a Alina recapacitar sobre su vida y sus sentimientos.

Cama adentro (Señora Beba) (Live-in maid)

Live-in Maid (lit. bed inside) phrase used to define the condition of an in-house, full-time maid. Dora (51) is the maid of Mrs. Beba (59) and has worked and lived with her for 35 years.

Beba used to be a well-to-do socialite but successive economic and personal crises have worn her out, reducing her to a purveyor of decadence.

Nowadays she finds herself forced to sell door-to-door beauty products. Her thick gold rings, and her maid, Dora, are the last bastions of a lifestyle of which she refuses to let go. Dora came at 17 from the Chaco province to work as a full time maid at Beba’s apartment.

Since then she has managed to start building a house in one of the shantytowns outside Buenos Aires. However, she is unable to complete the construction of her own house because Beba owes Dora six months of salary.

Beba (59) supo ser una dama de clase acomodada. Fue dueña de su propia casa de cosméticos, pero hoy se ve forzada a trabajar como vendedora puerta a puerta de productos de belleza.

Sus gruesos aros de oro y su mucama, Dora, son los últimos bastiones de un estatus que no se resigna a perder. Dora (51) llegó a los diecisiete años desde la provincia del Chaco para trabajar “cama adentro” en la casa de la señora Beba.

Desde entonces, con el dinero de su sueldo ha ido construyendo una casita en un asentamiento de la periferia de Buenos Aires. Sin embargo, Dora no puede terminar su casa porque Beba le adeuda seis meses de sueldo.
