Mar adentro = The sea inside

Ramón has spent almost thirty years lying in bed cared for by his family. His only window on the world is that of his bedroom next to the sea on which he often travelled and where he suffered the accident which cut his youth short.

Since then, his only desire is to end his life with dignity. However, his world will be changed by the arrival of two women: Julia, the lawyer who wants to support his struggle and Rosa a woman in the village who tries to convince him that living is worthwhile. Ramón’s bright personality finally captivates both of them and will make them question, like never before, the principles which govern their lives.

Ramón knows that only the person that truly loves him will be the one that helps him reach his ultimate destination.

Jersey 1945. The Second World War has ended but Grace’s husband has not come home. Alone in an isloated, Victorian mansion, she educates her children under strict religious teaching. The children, however, suffer from an unusual disease: they can’t come into direct contact with sunlight.

Heir to a considerable fortune, good-looking, lucky with the ladies, César is a young man to whom life smiles upon. One night, Pelayo, his best friend, introduces him to Sofia, with whom César immediately falls in love with.

Student Angela is preparing her thesis on audio-visual violence. Her teacher, Figueroa, comes across an unusual film, and is then found dead the next day. Angela and her school friend Chema, take the film, only to discover that it is in fact a “snuff movie” in which a young girl is horrifically tortured and killed.

Their discovery opens the way into the strange and dangerous world of audio-visuals, where Angela may just find herself the star of the next “snuff movie”…

Angela prepara una tesis sobre la violencia audiovisual. Figueroa, su director de tesis, descubre accidentalmente una película y al día siguiente, aparece muerto.
